Student Advising

Students are encouraged to meet with their student advisor within the Department of Chemistry each semester before registration.  Advisors not only provide access for students to register, but also they help you navigate the course map throughout your academic career.  They can also help with career planning, providing resources for internships, research opportunities, and advice on graduate school programs.

The undergraduate advisors for the Department of Chemistry are:

Professor Charles Hosten, CHB Room 213

Professor Jason Matthews, CHB Room 304

Professor Galina Talanova, CHB Room 113

Professor Dharmaraj Raghavan, CHB Room 202

Students are always recommended to seek help from the professor of the course first.  Professors are available during their scheduled office hours that are readily available on the course syllabus.  Students also have the option to email the professor to schedule an appointment to discuss assignments and course material.

In addition, the department offers free student led tutoring sessions on campus during the week usually held in CHB Room 103.  The times and location for each tutor can be found by clicking on the names below.  If a tutor is not available during their scheduled times, please email us at chemistry@howard.edu or inform our administrative assistant located in the Chemistry Building (Room 120). The Office of Undergraduate Studies also has tutors that are available to assist you throughout the semester.
